London Bridge Is In... Arizona?

You learn something new every day. Today I discovered that the famous London Bridge ("London Bridge is falling down") is in Arizona. That's right. At least, one of them is. Allow me to explain.

A succession of many bridges has existed in the spot where London Bridge stands in London.

One of the most famous incarnations (see illustration from Wikipedia) was the one covered in buildings which stood from about 1100 AD until the 1830's.

The old bridge was replaced by a stone bridge that lasted less than 150 years-- it was found to be sinking. An American millionaire made a bid for the stone bridge and moved it to Arizona where it now stands (as seen in the model above).

The current London Bridge (in London) can be seen in this model. It's more of a plain, functional bridge these days. I've added the model to these 3D model collections: Bridge, 1970s
